Welsh Sauce Producer Meridian Foods Acquires Greencore Plant

30 July 2007 - Meridian Foods, a Welsh manufacturer of spreads, sauces and salad dressings, has acquired a plant in Corwen from Ireland's Greencore group, its parent company, for an undisclosed sum, reports the local press.

Meridian Foods will keep the 13 workers and plans to expand sales of pasta sauces, spreads and other products from the site.

Neil Butler, Meridian Foods operations director, said: “It has become increasingly apparent that having direct control of our own manufacturing underlines our credibility as a specialist supplier in the health food market”.

Meridian is owned by Hazelwood plc, a leading manufacturer of convenience foods, which is owned by Greencore.
