Wiesbaden, August 27 – According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office, Germany exported milk and dairy products to the value of EUR 2.9 billion between January and June 2007.
This was a 20.3% rise on the same period a year earlier. In terms of quantity, however, the growth (+9.2%) was smaller.
Hence the increase in exports was attributable to a rise in both quantities and prices.
On a year-on-year comparison, the export prices of milk were up an average 4.5%, while the prices of milk powder even climbed an average 25.5% in the first six months of 2007.
The increase in prices clearly accelerated during the second quarter of 2007 (+8.5% for milk and +35.7% for milk powder) compared with the second quarter of 2006.
