21 September 2007 - In a statement sent to FLEXNEWS, Vietnamese monosodium glutamate and glutamic acid manufacturer Vedan announced it has started building a starch factory in the Ha Tinh province, in north central Vietnam.
The plant is expected to start its first phase of production by the second quarter of 2008. It will initially produce 100 tons of native starch per day and its production capacity will be gradually increased next year.
Vedan believes that the Ha Tinh plant will become another leading starch production base for the group in the future.
Meanwhile, Vedan also said that the Ve-Yu starch factory in the Vietnamese province of Gia Lai will continue to increase its production capacity.
In H1 2007, Vedan saw its sales of modified starch amount to USD 11.1 million, an increase of 51.9% year-on-year. In terms of sales volume, the firm recorded a 43.2% increase.
“Rapid growth of the modified starch business prompted the Group to convert all native starch into modified starch during the H1 2007 period. The Group expects the business to continue to grow in the second half of the year, especially the modified starch business in China. The Group’s effort in developing higher value-added modified starch for food applications in the past two years is bearing fruits, and will continue to be fruitful in the second half of the year”, Vedan said in the statement.
