Sept 24, 2007 - As Muslims observe Ramadan, the UK's Food Standards Agency is reminding consumers to avoid drinking Zam Zam water of uncertain origin, as it may contain high levels of arsenic.

Tests carried out in the UK on water labelled as Zam Zam water indicate the presence of arsenic at almost three times the legal limit, which could contribute to increasing people’s risk of cancer. The Agency again is advising consumers not to drink any water on sale labelled as Zam Zam water.

If UK local authority enforcement officers find any water on sale labelled as Zam Zam, they can check for compliance with food safety legislation. If there are any breaches they can take appropriate action.
