Lima, Oct 3 - The volume of coffee exported by Peru, South America's third-largest producer, fell 14 percent to 2.09 million 46-kg bags in the eight months through August from the same period a year earlier, a producers groups said on Wednesday.
In August, the Andean country sold 574,596 bags of coffee, down from 747,735 in August 2006, the Junta Nacional del Cafe said.
Producers say exports should fall 25 percent this year to about 3.8 million bags after a bumper crop last year. Peru exports about 95 percent of its coffee crop, mainly to the United States and Europe.
The exports brought in $224.7 million in the first eight months of this year, down 6.7 percent from the same period a year ago. Total exports this year should be worth $410 million, the group said.
