24 October 2007 - Germany's discount supermarkets account for approximately 50% of mineral water sales in the country. Therefore, leading German mineral water producer Gerolsteiner Brunnen GmbH & Co. KG is seeking to increase its sales by placing its products on the shelves of sector leaders like Aldi or Lidl.
According to Gerolsteiner’s CEO, Peter Traumann, the deals will go through if both supermarket chains agree on his pricing and branding models.
Currently, Plus is the only German discount retailer in Germany that sells Gerolsteiner's mineral waters.
In February, FLEXNEWS reported that Gerolsteiner’s 2006 turnover grew 7.7% year-on-year to around 208.8 mln euro. Last year, the company sold 7.1 million hectolitres, up 5.3% on the year.
Gerolsteiner is 51% owned by German beverage group Bitburger Holding GmbH. Buse group is the other major shareholder in Gerolsteiner with a 33% stake. The company has a workforce of 800.
