Tesco recalled its own brand value Jaffa cakes on October 17th, then its own brand Jaffa Cakes on October 22nd. Asda followed suit on October 23rd.

Milk was found to be present in all products, although the labels did not list it as an ingredient. These products therefore posed a risk to those allergic or intolerant to milk, said the UK's Food Standard Agency as it issued an allergy alert.

The Somerfield and Asda products contained milk as a result of cross-contamination.

All three supermarkets have withdrawn the offending products from their shelves and have displayed notices in their stores to inform the public of the withdrawal.
