7 November 2007 - Swedish dairy company Swedmilk has started buying milk in Macedonia for its new Skopje plant, according to a company statement.
Swedmilk was set up in autumn 2006. It is a partnership between two private investors, a Macedonian company (M&A Beverages) and a Swedish commercial investment fund. It is 50.5% Swedish-owned. Investments totalled 17 million euros, according to company sources.
The new dairy, in Skopje, Macedonia, has an initial daily capacity of 50,000 litres fresh milk. It will process 250,000 litres of milk a day and employ over 100 staff once it is fully operational. Planned turnover for 2008 is 14 million euros.
Swedmilk’s main focus is the Macedonian market, although exports are planned to neighboring countries such as Greece, Bulgaria, Albania or Kosovo.
