10 December 2007 - The French anti-fraud body dealing with food safety issues, the DGCCRF, has issued a warning to French consumers concerning flour produced from black wheat sold under the brand name “la Harpe Noire”, used to cook pancakes.
The anti fraud body was alerted by health centres in Brittany, who treated several people subject to faintness.
According to the DGCCRF, the flour was found to contain alkaloids, which can have pharmacological effects on humans, and can be, in many cases, poisonous.
The flour is produced by the Moulin du Pavillon, a small Breton miller, and is sold in 1kg packets mostly in Brittany.
Moulin du Pavillon has also issued a recall of its flour.
