Lucerne, Dec. 6 - Under the terms of a succession plan, Emmi is set to acquire Walter Schmitt AG in Märwil (Canton of Thurgau) at the start of 2008. The eastern Switzerland-based company specialises in the maturing and marketing of cheese varieties.
Walter Schmitt AG employs 13 persons. It is mainly Appenzeller cheese and to a lesser extent also Tilsiter made from raw milk and Emmentaler that are matured to perfection in the storage facilities in Märwil and Weinfelden. The acquisition of Walter Schmitt AG will deliver a boost to Emmi’s market position in Appenzeller cheese. Both parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
