13 December 2007 - LycoRed claims that its slow release technologies prolong flavour release beyond the ordinary 5 minutes that one can feel the taste of a chewing gum or a sweet.
Additionally, the Israeli firm explains that besides their flavour enhancing properties, its slow release technologies can also add value and improve the marketability of gums and sweets.
Catering for the growing demand for sugar-free ingredients, LycoRed has launched a new line of slow release ingredients – 3 artificial sweeteners (SucraCote® sucralose, AsparCote® aspartame and AcesuCote® acesulfam K) each in a slow release delivery system providing flavour enhancement through longer flavor retention. Micro-encapsulated CapsuDar® Malic Acid also allows for slow release of sour flavors.
“As you can imagine, flavour is a key factor in candy and gum sales.” states Udi Alroy, V.P. Global Marketing and Sales at LycoRed.
“When we tell manufacturers we can supply them with sugar-free ingredients that will maintain flavour longer, you can bet they are interested,” Alroy said in a written statement sent to FLEXNEWS.
LycoRed cites a new report from Global Business Insights, which says that the fastest growing category within the US confectionery market is chewing gum, with an annual compound growth rate of 5.2%.
Furthermore, a recent study by the Wrigley Science Institute found that chewing gum may play a role in weight control. Participants reported decreased hunger pangs and reduced calorie intake when they chewed gum before a snack.
“This is good news for the sugar-free gum business … Prolonged flavour release added to an already sugar-free gum creates a winning combination for your weight conscious consumer”, said Alroy.
