13 December 2007 - ADM, one of the largest agricultural processors in the world and a producer of a broad range of food ingredients, is shutting down its veggie burger plant in Decatur, Illinois, the group has announced.
Manufacturing soy food products such as veggie burgers doesn’t make economic sense for ADM anymore, explained the company, which intends to focus on selling soy proteins to food manufacturers instead. The East Plant, also in Decatur, will continue to produce soy ingredients to that effect.
The veggie burger plant will close at the beginning of next year. Plans have yet to be announced about its long-term future.
Some 40 jobs will be affected by the closure.
