Aldi to Build up to 100 Stores in US during 2008

14 December, 2008 –Supermarket chain Aldi is planning to increase its US store numbers by up to 100 in the next 12 month, according to local sources.

The aggressive expansion proposals could see the German discount chain enlarge its volume of outlets by over 11 pct to 1,000 by the end of 2008.

A company spokeswoman is quoted as saying all additions will be newly built and there were no plans to buy existing chains and rebrand them.

Aldi was ranked 24th among US grocery companies with a turnover of US$5.3 billion, according to a Supermarket News report released this year.
