Lima, Dec. 20 - Peru's coffee exports are expected to reach some 5.4 million quintals, or 46-kilo bags, in 2007, Peru's National Coffee Chamber said Thursday.
"We estimate that our exports will have a volume of 5.4 million quintals, higher than in 2006 when the exports were 5.06 million quintals," said Cesar Rivas Pena, president of the chamber, in a statement.
Coffee exports are expected to bring in $415 million this year, rising to some $600 million next year, he added.
The chamber forecasts that production will reach 6.4 million quintals next year.
Coffee, principally arabica, is grown in Peru in three zones: the central eastern slopes of the Andes Mountains, the northern Andes region and the southern region.
