3 January 2008 – Regional baker and supermarket operator Penn Traffic Co. has shut down its Penny Curtiss commercial bakery operation, the group has announced in a statement.
The closure is seen as part of Penn Traffic’s strategy, which includes improving its financial performance and focusing on its wholesale business. Penny Curtiss accounted for less than 4% of the Syracuse-based company’s total annual revenue and recently lost a contract to supply Aldi stores with baked goods amidst nationwide overcapacity.
The closure will affect approximately 160 staff.
