11 Die at Unilever Tea Plantation in Kenya

8 January, 2008 – Violent clashes in Kenya are reported to have claimed the lives of 11 local workers at a Unilever tea plantation.

The employees are said to have been killed as part of the unrest among various tribal and political factions triggered by allegations of fraud in the country’s recent elections.

Production has ground to a halt at all of Unilever’s 13 plantations in the troubled East African country and a company spokesman was reported as saying it was impossible to say when work would begin again.
