Longueil, QC, Jan. 31 - Agropur cooperative, Canada's largest dairy cooperative, just announced that it reached an agreement to acquire Trega Foods Inc. before the end of February 2008, pursuing therefore its expansion south of the border. It will be Agropur's second acquisition in the United States, since 2002, and allows the organization to reinforce its position on the North American and international dairy scene.
"We are increasing our presence in the United States and this business transaction is in direct link with our development strategy," said Mr. Pierre Claprood, CEO of Agropur.
Trega Foods operations will continue to be under the management of its current President, Mr. Doug Simon who will be reporting directly to Mr. Louis Lefebvre, President of Agropur's Cheese and Functional Products Division. Agropur will maintain all current operations under the name Trega Foods Ltd.
Located in Wisconsin, a state renowned for its dairy production, the organization manufactures different types of cheese and whey products.
