1 February 2008 - In a move to denounce high prices inflicted by the producers of consumer, French retailer E.Leclerc has, as of today, withdrawn 6 consumer items from its supermarkets, including 3 food products.
These are "Vache qui rit" cheese manufactured by the Bel group, "Pulco syrup" made by Orangina, and a cake brand produced by Brossard. The prices of these products increased by 18.29% to 20.63% between August 2007 and January 2008, says the retailer.
In previous reports on FLEXNEWS, E.Leclerc warned the French government that price increases imposed by food producers were threatening the French consumer's spending power. The supermarket chain also campaigns against the legal framework preventing them from negotiating with suppliers.
E.Leclerc has made a name for itself with catchy advertising slogans promoting the rights of consumers and cheap prices.
