French Food Manufacturer and Meat Processor Pierre Schmidt Acquires Rival

29 February 2008 – Alsace-based Pierre Schmidt has acquired main local rival Stoeffler for an undisclosed amount, local media report.

Both groups manufacture cured meat and processed meat products, such as fresh ready meals and pies, for retailers and food services.

The new company intends to develop its exporting operations.

Pierre Schmidt is headquartered in Weversheim, Bas-Rhin, and employs 328 staff. Its annual turnover has reached 70 million euros. Obernai (Bas-Rhin)-based Stoeffler, with 367 staff, reported an 86.5 million euros annual turnover last year.

The acquisition has been approved by the relevant French authorities, add the reports.
