Asked if Ahold was interested in Dutch rival Super de Boer, CEO John Rishton told reporters at a press conference: "We are always looking for opportunities to grow, whether in this country, or abroad, whether fill-in acquisitions."

He said Ahold is also interested in buying assets in adjacent geographical areas where it is active but said he has not met any executives from Belgian supermarket group Delhaize, which analysts have said would make a good fit for Ahold.
