10 March 2008 – New England Confectionery Co (NECCO) has announced the closure of its Stark Candy Co. plant in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, local media report.

Daily News Alerts

The plant manufactures heart-shaped sweets and chewy Candy Raisins. Production of the former will be transferred to NECCO’s newer, larger Revere plant, in the state of Massachusetts.

The company blamed the closure on increased competition from overseas confectionery manufacturers and rising sugar prices.

Some 137 jobs will be lost, add the reports.
