14 March 2008 – China's vegetable oil consumption stood at 23 million tonnes in 2007, up 9.5% from a year earlier, according to figures released by China's National Development and Reform Commission.
China is the world’s biggest consumer of vegetable oils and relies on imports for two thirds of its needs.
Imports of edible oils reached 8.38 million tonnes in 2007, up 25.3% on year.
