Century Foods in $2.5 Million Deal with Energy Company over Planned Ethanol Plant

21 March 2008 – Century Foods International, a dairy company and Hormel Foods Corporation subsidiary, has reached an agreement with Coulee Area Renewable Energy LLC (CARE) concerning plans for an ethanol plant near its factories in Sparta, Wisconsin, local media report.

Under the terms of the agreement, Century Foods will buy the more than 80-acre site adjacent to its Sparta site for $2.5 million, whilst CARE agrees not to build an ethanol plant within three miles of the dairy processor’s facilities.

Century Foods had opposed plans for the plant on the grounds that resulting emissions would contaminate its dairy products.
