21 March, 2008 - French cheese maker Bongrain has declared it is ready to take over medium-sized competitors with similar product ranges, according to reports.
The statement comes in the wake of mergers and rationalisation expected in the dairy sector following the planned phasing put of agriculture financial assistance.
In 2007, the firm acquired Belgian rivals Passendale, which notched up a EUR 45 million turnover. Bongrain is reported to have said it hasn’t ruled out central European expansion.
In the case of larger companies, Bongrain favours strategic alliances, such as the one with French co-operative Sodiaal that began last year. The move has helped it realise a turnover reaching EUR 500 million.
