Oakland, CA, March 24, 2008 - Sconza Candy Company, a maker of premium candy products for nearly 70 years, today announced plans to purchase the former Hershey Chocolate facility in Oakdale, CA.

This move will allow the company to expand its operations in response to increased demand for Sconza's premium candy products. The purchase is expected to be final on May 1, with candy production expected to start at the Oakdale plant beginning October 1. The plant will employ approximately 100 employees at the onset of operations.

The new Sconza Candy facility sits in the heart of California's Central Valley on approximately 70 acres of land. The 300,000 square foot candy manufacturing facility will allow Sconza Candy to consolidate its operations under one roof. Currently the company occupies three separate locations in Oakland.

"The plant is ideal for candy production and, in addition, is conveniently located at the source of our major ingredients including chocolate, sugar, nuts and fruit," said Jim Sconza, CEO. "This move will enable us to continue the tradition of quality that my father established 69 years ago."

"We are grateful to our employees and Oakland for all their support over the years," said Sconza, "and look forward to becoming part of the Oakdale community and making candy in California for generations to come."
