Mumbai, April 1 - World sugar production in the marketing year ending September is seen at a record high of 168.44 million metric tons, up 2.4 million tons on the year, a senior International Sugar Organization executive said Tuesday.
"The rise in production is due to new record high output in a number of key producers like China, Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand," ISO Executive Director Peter Baron told Dow Jones Newswires ahead of the Asia International Sugar Conference.
World sugar consumption during the current marketing year is estimated at 159.13 million tons, up 4.3 million tons from a year earlier, said Baron.
