11 April 2008 – Danisco has invested $9 million in its Madison culture and enzyme plant in response to growing demand in the US, according to a company press release.
The plant’s capacity was expanded, and new facilities were added. These include one of the biggest ultra-cold stores in the world, an automatic packaging line and two new frozen culture lines for parmesan and cottage cheese, adding to the plant’s existing lines for pizza cheese and American-style cheese. The new facilities and expanded capacity will come into operation this month, adds the release.
The investment should allow Danisco to meet demand for frozen cultures in the US for the next five years.
Danisco’s Niebüll plant, in Germany, and its Sassenage facility in France were extended two years ago in response to European and worldwide market growth, respectively. Further investments are planned, according to the company.
Danisco, a world leader in cheese culture production, manufactures cultures at six sites: Niebüll (Germany), Madison (US) and Sassenage, Dangé, Saint Romain and Epernon (France).
