16 April 2008 – Kraft Foods recently inaugurated its $40 million plant located in the Bahrain International Investment Park, local media report.
Construction of the modern, 60,000-square metre factory began in January 2007. It is one of the largest foreign food and beverage plant in the Middle East, add the reports.
The plant will produce 60,000 tonnes of Cream Cheese Spread, Cheddar Cans Cheese and Tang drink a year. The factory’s output is aimed at the growing Middle Eastern and African markets, which are of strategic importance to Kraft Foods, Maurizio Calenti, Group Vice President and President of Kraft Foods Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa was quoted as saying.
Bahrain was chosen as a location for the plant thanks to the country's central position within the region, its good communication and transportation infrastructure and its favourable regulatory environment.
