Caen-based Laboratoires Standa, whose customers already include big players such as Lactalis and Bongrain, is hoping that the investment in subsidiary SMB biotechnologies will reinforce its cooperation with local research centres and with food companies, both in France and abroad.

Work on the new 650-metre square factory in Bretteville-sur-Odon, Calvados, is scheduled to end in autumn 2008.

The company currently employs 23 people and last year posted a 7.3-million-Euro turnover, double that of ten years ago.
