23 April, 2008 - Lactalis completed its takeover of the Romanian LaDorna group this week in a deal reportedly worth up to EUR 100 million.
The deal saw the French dairy giant acquire all shares of LaDorna, which is Romania’s third largest dairy producer after Danone and Dutch Friesland.
The robust valuation was said to take into account the large growth potential of the domestic dairy market where consumption is currently just around a third of the European average.
Lactalis, one of the largest international dairy companies, posted a EUR 9.7 billion turnover in 2007 and is known to have been looking for an entry point into the Romanian market.
The move is a continuation of Lactalis' expansion into Eastern Europe. As FLEXNEWS reported yesterday, its Croatian subsidiary Dukat completed the takeover of state-owned dairy outfit KIM.
