6 May 2008 – Local media report that close to 300 jobs are under threat at County Durham-based Tindale & Stanton after the bakery company went into administration.

Daily News Alerts

The company supplies bread as well as sweet and savoury bakery products such as pies and cakes to retailers across Northern England, the Midlands and some parts of Spain.

It operates four sites, including two manufacturing facilities at Burnopfield and Gateshead, which together employ 269 people.

Tindale & Stanton, which is continuing to trade whilst its administrators look for a buyer, suffered a drop in sales as people’s tastes switched away from traditional fare to Indian, Chinese and Italian dishes and to healthier options. The recent and sustained rise in commodity prices, which the company didn’t pass on to customers, also contributed to the company’s demise, add the reports.
