7 May 2008 – French media report that Lactalis, the world's second largest dairy group and Europe's leading cheesemaker, is to transfer its fromage frais operations from the Nicolait plant, in Sarrebourg, Moselle, to Lisieux, Calvados, by the end of the year.

The Nicolait milk processing plant employs 130 people and produces 30,000 tonnes of various dairy products annually.

There is as yet no further information about the company’s restructuring plans, including possible job cuts, although a source was quoted as saying that the plant could switch to organic dairy production.

Milk collection, pasteurization and concentration operations will all continue to take place at the Sarrebourg site, add the media.
