8 May 2008 - Universal Robina Corporation (URC), the Philippines' largest snack foods manufacturer, has entered into a memorandum of agreement with General Milling Corporation (GMC) for the purchase of GMC's snack manufacturing assets, as well as its trademarks.
GMC is the second largest corn chips manufacturer in the Philippines. It produces and sells corn- and wheat-based snacks such as Kornets, Tortillos, and Brew Bud under the Granny Goose mother brand.
URC is the largest savory snacks manufacturer in the Philippines, producing Chippy, Piattos, and Nova, among others. URC manufactures savory snacks, biscuits, cakes, candies, and chocolates under the Jack ‘n Jill mother brand.
“We are looking forward to this development,” said URC President and Chief Operating Officer Lance Y. Gokongwei. “The heritage of the Granny Goose brand, as well as GMC’s diverse snacks lineup, will complement and grow our existing snack food operations.”
URC is one of the largest branded food companies in the Philippines and an emerging major player in Southeast Asia. URC is a subsidiary of JG Summit Holdings, Inc, one of the country’s most diversified conglomerates with major businesses engaged in property development, telecommunications, air transportation, petrochemicals and financial services.
