15 May, 2008 – China's food exports to the US totalled around US$ 4 billion in 2007, the US Government has revealed.
Fish and seafood exports accounted for more than half this total, shrimp and catfish top of this list by volume. Fruits and preparations – including fruit juices – reached almost US$ 1 billion.
The total of all Chinese goods shipped into the US were worth US$321 billion, while the US exported US$65 billion to China, figures reveal.
The list was announced as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Mike Leavitt, travelled to China this week to follow up on the implementation of the agreement the two countries signed in December 2007 on enhancing the safety of food, feed, drugs and medical devices exported from China to the United States.
