26 May 2008 - Romanian bottling company Romaqua Group is planning to invest 7 million euro in opening a plant located near Miercurea Ciuc (central Romania) on the premises of a former production unit owned by Nestle/Pierre Vittel, according to local press reports.
According to the reports, Romaqua saw its turnover amount to 130 million euro in 2007. Moreover, Romaqua was the best-selling Romanian mineral water bottler in 2007 with a 25% market share. The company also catered for 8% of the domestic soft drink market.
In 2007, Romanian bottled water consumption grew 20% after very high temperatures registered in the summer, and consumers' shift from table water to mineral water.
According to National Company of Mineral Waters from Romania (SNAM) data, just over 1 billion litres were produced last year, up from the 857 million litres produced in 2006.
Consumption is again expected to rise by 20% this year, a SNAM spokesperson told the press.
