2 June 2008 – Family-owned Sconza Candy Co. will get $13.3 million in bond financing from the State of California to help with its expansion plans in Oakdale, local media report.
The Oakland-based company acquired the former Hershey plant in the City of Oakdale in a bid to expand its operations.
Sconza will use the bonds to cover the acquisition costs and to renovate the existing facilities and install new equipment.
The company completed its purchase of the plant on May 2. Work has already begun on the renovation of the factory, which is expected to be operational by October 2008.
Sconza manufactures various confectioneries, which it supplies to outlets throughout the US, including Costco and Trader Joe’s. It currently employs 90 staff and expects to create an additional 160 jobs within two years of opening its Oakdale plant.
