Cargill Says Food Majors Should Produce More

St Petersburg, Russia, June 6 - Multinational food companies need to help the world produce more food, the president and chief executive of leading U.S. commodity trading group Cargill said on Friday.

"A tonne of food is a tonne of food. If it's in developing countries that's all the better as that is where there is greatest demand," Greg Page told Reuters on the sidelines of Russia's main investor event, the St Petersburg Economic Forum.

"As tight as supplies are, we will explore every avenue".

Asked what should be the main role of multinational food companies in averting a world crisis, he replied: "To help produce more."
