Further to the purchase, Duvel Moortgat will initially focus on Liefmans’ brown ales and fruit beers, which are produced at a plant in Oudenaarde. The move will enable Duvel Moortgat to enter a market segment in which it was not active.

The brewer added that it will make the necessary investments to improve the Oudenaarde facility.

In February, FLEXNEWS reported that Duvel Moortgat had been granted temporary production rights by Liefmans Breweries.

Liefmans' receivers had allowed Duvel to use production on a temporary basis, on the condition that Duvel would prepare an offer to acquire all or part of Liefmans' operations.

Liefmans was declared bankrupt in December.
