SA Bioproducts, located near Durban, mainly produces lysine for the animal feed market. However, the company, in collaboration with Amino GmbH of Germany, supplies isoleucine for the human pharmaceutical market.

The acquisition is expected to benefit Lallemand's South African yeast business Anchor.  The company is a leader in the yeast, dough raising and fermentation technology to the consumer, bakery, wine and alcohol businesses in Southern Africa.

Ray Stout, MD of Anchor, said he looked forward to the synergies that would be created locally between Anchor and SA Bioproducts, two of South Africa's leading fermentation companies.
