The new Studen-Agrana d.o.o. Sugar Refinery Brck is expected to employ 160 workers and have an annual production of 150,000 tonnes of refined sugar, a company spokesman said.

The plant, the only sugar refinery in the country, began production three weeks ago. The previous sugar facility in BiH closed in 10995 because of the war.

BiH imports its entire 130,000 tonnes of domestic sugar consumption from a number of countries including Germany, Hungary, Czech Republic and Austria.

The business partners also produce vegetable oil in BiH.

Agrana has said it is the leading producer of sugar in Central and Eastern Europe with operations also in Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Romania , with a total of nine production facilities in these countries.
