Dry Weather, Frost Cut Kenya Tea Output by 21 pct

Nairobi, 30 July - Kenya's tea output fell 21 percent in the first six months of 2008 compared to the same period last year due to drought and frost in growing areas, the Tea Board of Kenya said on Wednesday.

"The highest drop in production was experienced in the first quarter of the year which recorded a decline of 34 percent owing to the effects of dry weather conditions experienced in most tea growing areas and frost that hit parts of the Rift," said Sicily Kariuki, managing director of the board.
