Russia: Overview of Food Labelling and Import Rules

30 July, 2008 - This report is an overview of both general and commodity-specific requirements of Russian Federation government agencies for imported foodstuffs.

Despite Russia’s ongoing preparation for WTO accession, agencies’ control over imported foodstuffs remains complicated and bureaucratic. Barriers to trade depend on the type of product, customs clearance location, importer’s status, and other non-transparent factors.

Enacting new technical regulations that would replace non-WTO compliant national standards has been virtually suspended.
