5 August 2008 – Brewing giant Foster's has been fined AUD$1.125 million (USD1.037 million) for failing to fix a machine which caused a worker to lose his life, Australian media report.
The accident happened at Foster’s Abbotsford brewery in 2006 when, in a repeat of a similar incident several years earlier, machine operator Cuu Huynh’s head became jammed in a bottling machine.
Foster’s Australia pleaded guilty of failing to maintain a safe workplace and failing to provide adequate training and supervision.
The fine is the largest ever to be imposed for a single workplace death in the State of Victoria, add the reports.
