14 August 2008 - According to local media, Italian dairy group Granarolo S.p.A. has sold its creamery Caseificio Merlo to a group of Piedmont-based businessmen for 188,000 euro.
The news comes nearly 6 months after Granarolo S.p.A. said it would close its plants in Sermoneta and Acqui Terme, which both produce cheese for the Merlo brand.
Granarolo acquired the Merlo brand from the Yomo Group in March 2004.
Based in Bologna and owned by the Granlatte Consortium, Granarolo processes fresh pasteurised milk and is a leader in the production of organic dairy products. The company is also the second largest processor of long life UHT milk in Italy.
