18 September 2008 - Following concerns about the distribution of milk products contaminated with melamine in China, the Food Standards Agency can confirm there is currently no evidence that any of the affected milk, milk powder or powdered infant formula has been imported into the UK.
The World Health Organization reports official Chinese figures showing that 6,244 infant cases of kidney stones and three deaths have been linked to the contaminated products. Melamine is a chemical widely used in plastics and has been linked to kidney failure.
The Agency will continue to monitor the situation and take action in the UK if necessary.
