Sochi, September 22th, 2008 – On Saturday, Jacobo Caller, Carrefour Russia General Director and Tatyana Evsikova, Vice-Governor of Krasnodar region, have signed a Memorandum of understanding on the implementation of an investment project in Krasnodar Region. The signing took place today in the framework of an official meeting of the Prime Ministers of France and Russia during the VII International Investment Forum in Sochi.
«Krasnodar is a region with a considerable economic potential and favorable investment climate. It will be one of the first regions in Russia where Carrefour business will operate”, said Carrefour Group CEO Jose Luis Duran during participation in the investment Forum in Sochi.
The agreement foresees that Carrefour will invest up to 100 million USD in Krasnodar region within a 5 year period. Under the investment project Carrefour will open several hypermarkets, and/or other type of retail outlets in the region. On its side, the Administration of Krasnodar region will provide support for Carrefour business development in finding suitable land plots for lease or purchase, and connecting stores to municipal infrastructure.
«We know Carrefour as a responsible enterprise and a socially effective company; this is why the Administration expresses its interest and willingness to support Carrefour ‐ the world’s second‐largest retailer. This is new jobs and additional tax payments into the budget of the region», said Krasnodar region Governor Alexandre Tkachev.
The first Carrefour hypermarket in Krasnodar region will be located in the shopping mall on Stasovoy Street in Krasnodar city. The store opening is scheduled for the beginning of 2009.
