The Yili and Mengnui milk drinks were likely to have been smuggled into the Philippines illegally, Government minister Francisco Duque said yesterday, as their labels were not printed in English.

Two supermarkets found to have been stocking the products were shit down yesterday by health officials.

The minister sought to play down any health scares by saying there had been no reports of illnesses connected to milk products.

South American country Uruguay became the latest to ban the import of Chinese dairy products.

Health officials announced they had imposed “analytical control of all product shipments from China that contain milk or dairy products”.

More melamine contaminated candy was discovered yesterday in Connecticut in the northeast of the United States. The industrial chemical was detected in White Rabbit sweets. The US distributor has issued a product recall.

Yesterday FLEXNEWS reported contaminated White Rabbit candy was banned in Belgium after authorities discovered levels of melamine four times above legal safety limits.
