20 October 2008 - With a view to to reduce excess manufacturing capacity, Unilever has announced that it will close its Canadian mayonnaise and sauces facility in Baie d'Urfé, Quebec.
It is expected that the closure will take place before the end of 2009 and will result in the loss of approximately 110 jobs.
Most of the production of mayonnaise and sauces currently conducted at the Baie d'Urfe facility will be moved to the company's Rexdale, Ontario plant, said Unilever in a statement.
"The move will result in an increase in employment requirements at the Rexdale facility of about 30 positions which will be offered to employees of the Baie d'Urfe facility affected by today's announcement".
Unilever Canada's 2007 sales amounted to $1.5 billion. Unilever employs 1,800 people across Canada.
