Halifax, Oct. 20 - Ocean Nutrition Canada Limited, supplier of MEG-3(R) brand Omega-3 EPA/DHA from fish oil to the food and dietary supplement industries is pleased to announce their capacity expansion. The $19 million investment secures ONC's position as the largest fish oil manufacturer in the world.

The expansion of their world class molecular distillation plant in Mulgrave, Nova Scotia, Canada means a 100% increase in MEG-3(R) concentrate capacity. Through their joint venture collaboration with Alicorp Corporation in Peru, to build a second fish oil manufacturing plant, they have realized a 200% capacity increase in their MEG-3(R) 30% fish oil.

The capacity expansion reinforces ONC's position as the world leader in the fish oil industry. This leading position is backed by the high quality and purity standards of their fish oil, and the sustainability of the fishery from which they derive their fish oil. Their MEG-3(R) fish oil ingredients meet the most stringent purity requirements established by global organizations including the Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3 (GOED), United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), United States Pharmacopeia (USP), European Commission, Norwegian Food Safety Authority, and Health Canada. They achieve their commitment to quality by producing, testing, warehousing, and transporting according to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP).

ONC also takes great care to source its fish oil from sustainable fisheries. Their fish oil is sourced from Peru, one of the richest marine environments in the world. The Peruvian fishery is highly regulated and protected by the Peruvian government to ensure that it remains environmentally responsible, and entirely sustainable.

With increased consumer awareness of the health benefits of Omega-3 EPA/DHA, and an increased desire to lead healthier lives, the demand for Omega-3 supplements and foods fortified with Omega-3 EPA/DHA has seen explosive growth. Packaged Facts has recently forecasted that the US Omega-3 food market will grow from $2 billion dollars USD in 2007 to $7 billion dollars USD in 2011. ONC's capacity expansion will ensure supply is available for supplement manufacturers and food companies as they strive to meet this growing demand.

"With the exponential growth in consumer demand for Omega-3 food and supplement products we knew we had to be ahead of the game. With our capacity expansion we are more than prepared to meet any supply demands for both our fish oil and micro-encapsulated ingredients." Robert Orr continued, "This capacity expansion secures our position as the world leader in the Omega-3 dietary supplement and food industries, something we're very proud of."
