23 October 2008 - Romanian dairy producer Albalact has acquired a 77% stake in Raraul Campulung Moldovenesc, a cheese producer based in north-eastern Romania.
Rarau is believed to be strategically positioned with access to one of the most important basins of raw milk in the country, sources report. The company is also one of the few producers in Romania authorised to trade its products in the EU.
Furthermore, Rarau has recently invested approximately 2 million euro in its cheese production facility.
Rarul saw its 2007 turnover amount to 4.8 million euro and its net profit at 132,833 euro.
Albalact, meanwhile, reported 2007 turnover of 46.8 million euro and a net profit of 960,615 euros.
According to Albalact president Raul Ciurtin, the company is one of the top 5 dairy producers in the country.
Along with its rivals Friesland, Danone, La Dorna and Hochland, Albalact has invested heavily in marketing over the past years to grow its brand image.
